ESE Student Catherine Yee

My name is Catherine Yee, and I am a sophomore in Earth, Society, and Environmental Sustainability minoring in Sustainability, Energy, and Environment Fellows Program. Besides my schoolwork, I am an active member in the RSO Students for Environmental Concerns, the universities oldest and largest environmental RSO, where I am Earth Week co-chair and recently elected as co-President.

Earth Week is the week surrounding Earth Day, where we reflect on how our actions and choices affect the environment and propose to make changes in our lives. I am very passionate about the environment, so I was honored to have been elected as Earth Week co- chair. Planning Earth Week is important because it gives me a chance to engage with other students and help raise awareness about environmentalism. Being Earth Week co-chair gives me the opportunity to coordinate and connect with various community and campus groups who all share a common interest.

This coming school year I will be acting as SECS co-President. I am excited to work with all of the members of SECS to promote our environmental values and ideals. Along with SECS, I am on the Energy Generation, Purchasing, and Distribution Sustainability Working Advisory Team (SWATeam). It was an honor to have been chosen as a student on the SWATeam, where I am able to share my interests of renewable energy and aid the team to make decisions on getting the campus to 100% clean energy. Because of my interests in energy, I was able to participate in this year’s Eco-Olympics as a meter reading technician and had the opportunity to experience the realities of working in an energy field.
